Site Of The Week: Yellow Bird Project

Yellow Bird Project is a new non-profit initiative that teams up with indie bands to raise money for a slew of charity organizations. In a nutshell, Yellow Bird asks established indie bands to design t-shirts to sell on their website, with 100% of the profits going to charity. Bands such as The New Pornographers, Stars, The National, Rilo Kiley, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Shins, Wolf Parade, Broken Social Scene, and Stars have all contributed designs. My favorite is this shirt from My Brightest Diamond. They aren’t exactly “cheap” but it’s for a good cause, so reach for your wallets and head over to Yellow Bird to pick up your own.

Last but not least, YB also has their own theme song courtesy of The Tallest Man On Earth called “A Field Of Birds.” It’s a little too porch-straddlin’-rocking-chair-banjo for my tastes, but it’s fun nonetheless.

cool idea but $25 is a LOT for a t-shirt, even if it is for charity. that being said, the national one is my favorite.

    lol at the post above.

25 dollars idn’t really a lot at all for a T. ESPECIALLY when it’s for charity.

I don’t see on what kind of scale you need to think for you to think it’s too much. It’s almost mind boggling to me.

yes, 100% is for charity, but even so, $25 is steep for a tee when they are bought and printed for much less. i bet more would sell if it were lowered to even $15.

is anyone surprised that IGIF posted this project? cheap shirts for an expensive price? they also seem to be a little bit misinformed, the high price tag is NOT 100% to charity. the cost covers overhead, the price of maintaining the website, and pays the staff before a dime touches any charity check.

also, this site hasn’t really been updated in about a year. Fuck you both for wasting everyone’s time.

The site hasn’t been updated in a year? There’s a blog that gets updated every week? Have you been to their website?

You think that $25 is expensive, but these designs are all printed on American Apparel t-shirts…
How much does an AA t-shirt cost in stores? (At least $19).

There is no such thing as “too porch-straddlin’-rocking-chair-banjo!”
